Request - Jack Barakat
“Ah!” You exclaimed as you burned your hand on the side of the bag. You and Jack were making popcorn for movie night and he had left you in charge while he went to get something from the other room.
“Hey, everything alright in here?” Jack’s head was peeking around the corner.
“Yeah, yeah, it just was a bit hot, that’s all.” You explained.
“Are you hurt at all?” His face showed concern.
“Nah, it’s all good, don’t worry about it.” You reassured him, but he was already walking over to you. He knew you were lying; he always knew. He gently took your hand and started to examine it. “Sweetie, you’ve burned yourself. We need to get some cold water on this pronto.” He kicked on the cold water and quickly ran your hand underneath. You cringed when it first hit, but once you got used to it, your hand felt so much better. “Keep your hand there.” He walked over to the other side of the kitchen and opened a drawer of first aid supplies. He came back with a large bandage and a sharpie. He turned the water off and patted your hand dry before placing the bandage over the burn.
“Are you finished?” You asked.
“Not quite. Just one more thing to do.” He uncapped the sharpie and pressed it to the surface of the bandage. When he pulled away so I could see it, it said seven simple words. ‘I love you, always and forever – Jack’ with a little heart in front of his name. “There we go, all done. Does it feel better?” He asked.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” You giggled. Your cheeks started to feel a bit warm.
“Alright, now I haven’t finished in the other room, so I’ll be right back, okay? Can you take care of yourself while I’m gone?” He flashed a grin your direction and he walked to the doorway.
“Just go finish your whatever it is.” You shooed him out and poured the popcorn from the bag into a bowl. You walked it over to the living room and flopped down on the couch, starting to look through the movies Jack had picked out. Not too interested in any of them, you were easily growing impatient. “Jack, are you almost done in there?” You yelled.
“Yeah, yeah, just give me a second!” His muffled voice called back.
“Mhm, sure.” You muttered. You knew it’d be another ten minutes before he was over here. You stood up and bounced over to the sliding door to watch the lightning. Even thought you never were a fan of rain, lightning had always fascinated you. You sat down to watch the show, legs crisscrossed. After a few minutes, you noticed the thunder had gotten pretty loud, the lightning a lot more closely paired with it. Suddenly, the lightning struck right before your very eyes and the thunder was deafening. You gasped, for the light had blinded you. As you tried to regain your sight, you froze. There were loud crackling noises coming from outside. As your sight developed like a Polaroid, you finally understood where it was coming from. The lightning had struck the trunk of the tree outside and it was falling in your direction. Even as the snapping grew quicker and louder, your muscles refused to move, too paralyzed with fear. At the last second, you managed to scurry your body back frantically, desperately trying to escape this nightmare. It crashed to the ground, the vibrations violently shaking your body to the floor.
“What the fuck was that!” Jack yelled from the other room. He came running through the kitchen to where you were sprawled on the floor. Your hands and legs are shaking but you can’t control them, the tears streaming down your cheeks. “Cat! Cat, what’s wrong? It didn’t hit you, baby, you aren’t hurt.” He spoke softly to you, but his words made no difference. You were past the point of no return and just needed to let it run its course. He sat down on the floor next to you and pulled you into his arms. “Shh, it’s alright babe, you’re gonna be okay. Don’t worry; I’m right here with you. I’ll protect you, I promise, I won’t let anything hurt you.” He continued to speak reassuring words as he cradled you in his arms. He kissed the top of your head and your cheeks and your forehead; practically any surface he could manage. After a while, you calmed down and were in a good enough state to talk to him.
“Jack, I’m so, so sorry, I never wanted you to see me like this. I’m probably such a pain right now. Look at how much time I’ve wasted. How are we gonna watch a mo-” he forcefully pressed his lips to yours, cutting off your rant. He held it there for a good minute before breaking it off. He pulled away, his glistening eyes piercing yours.
“Cat, don’t you dare apologize for what just happened. What kind of person would I be if I stopped loving you for something you can’t control? And don’t you ever say that to me ever again. You will never, ever be a pain to me. I am so blessed just to have you in my life, through the fun times and the tough ones. Look at what it says on your hand. It says ‘I love you, forever and always.’ You’re my Kitty Cat, and I love you exactly the way you are, through every single thing that comes our way. I would never change a single thing about you, because, well, then you wouldn’t be you. So don’t you worry your beautiful little head, because I’ll always be here with you.” He pulled you into a tight embrace. His tears were hot on your skin and you couldn’t help but fall even deeper in love with him. He let go and quickly wiped his face, not wanting you to see his ‘lack of masculinity.’ “Now, I finally finished what I was working on, and I really think you’ll like it.” He reached behind him for something on the floor. “Close your eyes.” You happily obliged and felt him set something in your lap. “Alright, open!” You were greeted by a beautiful flower crown made of ivy vines, white roses, and calla lilies. A small gasp escaped your lips as you lifted it up. Upon looking more closely, you noticed one of the ivy leaves had a date written on it. “It was the day we first met. That day was the best day of my life, and I thought you should know that. Do you like it? I wasn’t sure if you’d even like one, but I see other girls wearing them, and all I can think of is how pretty you would look with one.” He explained quietly.
“Did you make this yourself?” You whispered in astonishment.
“Yeah, that’s why it took so long to finish. Here, why don’t you try it on?” He slipped it out of your hands and gently placed it on your head. A wide smile appeared upon his face and he took your hands in his.
“So? How do I look?” You asked. He hesitated for a moment, studying you.
“You look absolutely stunning. You know how I tell you you’re my goddess? This just solidifies that statement.” He answered softly. You blushed hard as he leaned in to kiss you, knowing all was right with the world. Everything in this moment with him was perfect, and you never, ever wanted it to end.
